Frequently Asked Questions

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library has recently created a guide on Frequently Asked Questions for the Law Library and the Legal Resources Centre. This guide contains frequently asked questions such as how to set up your library password, where to find past CUHK law examination papers, where to find the full title of a legal abbreviation, etc. This guide aims to provide students with quick reference to the topics which students would like to know regarding the library services and legal research skills.

Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals

The Library has recently subscribed to the electronic version of Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals. This database provides fulltext of the most important decisions of the International Criminal Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), the International Criminal Tribunals for Rwanda (ICTR), the Special Court for Sierra Leone, the International Criminal Tribunal for Timor-Leste and the International Criminal Court (ICC).

You can access the electronic version of Annotated Leading Cases of International Criminal Tribunals (v. 1 – v. 41) at the Law Database List.  This database provides fulltext of the most important decisions of the ICTY, ICTR, The Special Court for Sierra Leone, The International Criminal Tribunal for Timor-Leste and the ICC.

New Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622)

The new Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622) and 12 pieces of subsidiary legislation came into operation on 3rd March 2014. The electronic version of this ordinance and related subsidiary legislation is available on the website of the Department of Justice Bilingual Laws Information System (BLIS).

The new Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622) has repealed the core provisions of the original Companies Ordinance (Cap. 32). The original Companies Ordinance (Cap. 32) has been renamed as the Companies (Winding up and Miscellaneous Provisions) Ordinance (Cap. 32) which contains provisions relating to prospectuses, winding-up, insolvency of companies and disqualification of directors. Its electronic version is also available in BLIS.

The detailed information of the new Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622) is available on the Companies Registry website under “New Companies Ordinance” section.

HeinOnline New Feature- hyperlinks to US case law

The database HeinOnline has provided the inline hyperlinks to U.S. federal and state case law powered by Fastcase. By clicking the case citation in the content of the article will link to the full-text of the cited case. HeinOnline also provide searching function under the “Fastcase Tab” which users can enter a case citation to search.
Case Law coverage includes:
The federal case coverage includes the judicial opinions of the Supreme Court (1754-present), Federal Circuits (1924-present), Board of Tax Appeals (vols. 1-47), Tax Court Memorandum Decisions (vols. 1-59), U.S. Customs Court (vols. 1-70), Board of Immigration Appeals (1996-present), Federal District Courts (1924-present), and Federal Bankruptcy Courts (1 B.R. 1-present). The state case law covers all fifty states, with nearly half of the states dating back to the 1800s. Coverage for the remaining states dates back to approximately 1950.
