Hong Kong Student Law Gazette

The Hong Kong Student Law Gazette (http://hongkongstudentlawgazette.com/) publishes twice per year and it offers students opportunity to engage with key legal issues and fosters dialogue between law students and the wider legal community.

Faculty of Law Legal Citation Style Guide

The Lee Quo Wei Law Library has updated the Faculty of Law Legal Citation Style Guide on its website under the heading Information Guides & Subject Guides . The latest version is the Version 14 (February 2013).
This guide outlines citation style for commonly used legal resources. A list of further readings is provided at the end of this guide. In the Version 14, we have updated the information of the further readings at the end of the guide.

The print copies of this guide are also available at the Lee Quo Wei Law Library and the Legal Resources Centre in the Graduate Law Centre.

United Nations Handbook 2012-13 e-publication is available online free

The United Nations Handbook contains the up-to-date information on the structure, aims, membership and contact details of the United Nations bodies such as the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice, the Secretariat and subsidiary and associated bodies of the United Nations. It has published annually since 1961 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, New Zealand as a ready reference guide.
This year is the 50th edition of the United Nations Handbook.  The e-copy of the United Nations Handbook 2012-13 is freely available at http://www.mfat.govt.nz/UNHB2012/index.php with features such as fully searchable text, an active contents page and index and the ability to leave bookmarks and notes.

Lawyee.net (北大法意)

The library has newly subscribed to the database Lawyee.net (北大法意). Lawyee.net is a database of Chinese legislation, treaties and court judgments. Its strength is the comprehensive collection of PRC court cases. Most of the materials in Lawyee.net are in Chinese, with selected English translation on laws and regulations, contract precedents, etc.
The major sub-databases include:
  •  Court Cases Database which includes PRC cases from the Supreme People's Court and other lower level courts, as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan cases.
  • Laws and Regulations Database which includes PRC national and local laws and regulations since 1949. It also contains Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan laws and regulations and international treaties.
  •  WTO Documents
  • Contract Precedents Database

LexisHK -- A New Platform

Lexis.com migrated to the new platform last week. LexisHK is the new interface for Lexis Hong Kong and Lexis international materials. It contains cases, legislation, commentaries, journals & news from HK, US, UK, PRC and other jurisdictions. The new interface allows us to access all subscribed contents (except Lexis China) via one single platform.

The essential content in LexisHK includes:
·         Halsbury's Laws of Hong Kong
·         The Annotated Ordinances of Hong Kong
·         Hong Kong Cases
·         Hong Kong Cases Unreported
·         CaseBase Hong Kong  (searching for case information)
·         The Laws of Hong Kong
·         Atkin's Court Forms Hong Kong

The old platform Lexis.com and the new platform LexisHK will parallel run until the end of February 2013. From March 2013 onwards, LexisHK will fully replace the old platform. Training schedule for using the new platform LexisHK will be announced after the Chinese New Year Holidays.
